EWIC 2017 Program


EWIC 2017 begins Wednesday afternoon, October 25 with a keynote address, trainee “data blitz” and welcome reception with posters. Robert Fleming, MD (Saint Louis University Medical School) will present the EWIC 2017 Keynote Address, "A tale of two heads: Lessons from lobe-specific mutations in the transferrin iron binding sites." Join us for dinner, Wednesday at 7:15 pm, at Postmark Restaurant [more information]. The program continues Thursday, October 26 with a series of lively roundtable discussions, and a lunchtime poster session. The conference will end with a brief Business Meeting (2:50 – 3:00 pm) at which we will present the trainee awards.

Other Events


Seminar—UC’s pharmacology & systems physiology department seminar on Tuesday, 24 October, 2017 at 4:00 pm, 4051 Medical Sciences Building, will feature Elizabeta Nemeth, PhD (David Geffen–UCLA School of Medicine): “From anemia to iron overload and infection: Pathobiology of iron”. Although the seminar is not formally part of the EWIC program, all are welcome to attend.

Red Cell Club—The Red Cell Club will meet in Cincinnati, 27–28 October, 2017. The meeting will be hosted by Theodosia Kalfa, Punam Malik, and Richard Ware at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Register online
